ILO | Child Labour Convention achieves universal ratification

For the first time in the ILO’s his­to­ry, an International Labour Convention has been rat­i­fied by all Member States.

Convention No. 182 on the Worst Forms of Child Labour  achieved uni­ver­sal rat­i­fi­ca­tion, fol­low­ing rat­i­fi­ca­tion by the Kingdom of Tonga.

Ambassador for the Kingdom of Tonga, Titilupe Fanetupouvava’u Tuivakano, for­mal­ly deposit­ed the rat­i­fi­ca­tion instru­ments with ILO Director-​General, Guy Ryder on 4 August 2020.

The Convention is the most rapid­ly rat­i­fied Convention in the his­to­ry of the Organization, since its adop­tion 21 years ago by the International Labour Conference.

Catalan orchestras at the cutting edge against child labour

The Barcelona Symphony Orchestra ded­i­cat­ed its con­certs on the 17, 18 and 19 October 2014, direct­ed by Emmanuel Krivine, to the “Music against child labour” inter­na­tion­al campaign.

A short video on the cam­paign (with sub­ti­tles in Catalan) was shown pri­or to the con­cert and an announce­ment made out­lin­ing its aims, which empha­sized coop­er­a­tion between AMPOS and FIM.

A note was includ­ed in the con­cert pro­gramme and 2,300 red cards dis­trib­uted among the audience.

Next 27 November, the Gran Teatre de la Ópera del Liceu de Barcelona will be ded­i­cat­ing anoth­er con­cert to the cam­paign, with Beethoven’s 9th sym­pho­ny under the direc­tion of Josep Pons.

Music Against Child Labour: join our campaign now!

The glob­al Music Against Child Labour Initiative was launched in 2013. It links the ILO and its International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC) with musi­cians, con­duc­tors and musi­cians’ organizations.

The Initiative’s Manifesto calls on orches­tras, choirs and musi­cians of all gen­res world­wide to ded­i­cate one con­cert between October 2013 and December 2014 to the strug­gle against child labour. The first con­cert in the main series was per­formed in October 2013 dur­ing the III Global Conference on Child Labour in Brasilia.

Music against Child Labour initiative

The International Labour Organization and its International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC), in part­ner­ship with an array of renowned con­duc­tors, musi­cians, musi­cians’ organ­i­sa­tions and music edu­ca­tion bod­ies, launch­es its “Music against Child Labour” Initiative on June 11, 2013, at a con­cert at the Salle Pleyel in Paris.

The “Music against Child Labour” Initiative calls on orches­tras, choirs and musi­cians of all gen­res world­wide to ded­i­cate one con­cert in their planned reper­toire between October 2013 and December 2014 to the strug­gle against child labour.
