Argentina | Demise of María Laura Vigliecca

Laura Vigliecca

The Argentinian union SADEM and the Latin American group of FIM are in mourning after the demise of María Laura Vigliecca, member of SADEM’s management and president of OSDEM (Obra social de músicos).

A long-time trade unionist and a committed feminist, María Laura participated in several FIM meetings in Latin America, bringing her energy, experience and exceptional charisma. In October 2018, her presence at the FIM regional conference dedicated to the rights of female musicians (Montevideo) significantly contributed to the success of this event.

FIM pays tribute to her memory and extends its heartfelt condolences to her family, friends and colleagues at SADEM.

Brazil | Musicians take position about the political crisis

Dilma Roussef, President of Brazil

Musicians’ Manifest

Brazil currently faces the possibility of a setback in historic achievements for which the Brazilian people fought hard. A Constitution focused on citizenship, built after a murky state of emergency period is about to be demeaned by politicians who act exclusively based on corporatist interests and moved by more malicious intents.

A democratically elected president faces an “impeachment” process without any crime of responsibility that can be attributed to her management. The Constitution is clear; jurists, public personalities, politicians and statesmen from Brazil and the world have demonstrated the absurdity of what is about to be perpetrated in Congress.

The construction of this democracy — history and important moments have proved – counted on the active participation of musicians. […]
